Meditation has been practiced by many cultures and religions for thousands of years. Meditation does not necessarily have to be a religious experience but rather a brain or mind exercise. For whatever reason you consider meditating for, it can be very beneficial for many reasons including reducing stress, improving health, and an overall sense of well-being. Meditation is, for the most part, focusing your very, very busy mind. Getting started on meditation may be the hardest part, but there are many guided meditations out there to help you get started just find one that works for your lifestyle and personal beliefs and / or faith.
Meditation and Stress. Life can be stressful for many people. Running late to work or school, getting into an argument with someone, and falling short of certain expectations are all just a few examples of stressful situations. However, for people who meditate regularly, they can refocus on how to get past the situation and see clearly whereas, others who do not mediate may “marinate,” more on the situation causing either more stress, fear, or anger.
Meditation and the Immune System. Stress and anger can have a very negative effect on the immune system. According to a Harvard study chronic stress can cause damage to our health. When we have an ongoing chronic stress, our cortisol levels can go up causing other health issues that compromise our immune system. People who meditate can usually remain calm and have a stronger immune system.
The Stress Hormone: When cortisol levels continually increase over time, it can put a significant amount of stress on the adrenals causing a condition known as adrenal fatigue. People who suffer from adrenal fatigue are always tired no matter how much sleep they get. A few common adrenal fatigue symptoms are low libido, brain fog, nervousness, depression, weight gain and belly fat. Symptoms like those surely have an effect on a person’s sense of well-being and self-esteem. Don’t let adrenal fatigue get in the way of your inner peace and health. Take our Adrenal Fatigue Test to get your adrenals balanced so that you can also have a well-balanced mind with meditation!
Bottom line is- 3 reasons why you should meditate because meditation can help with stress, the immune system, and a good sense of well-being. No wonder people who meditate seem to be calm and happy!
