Vitamins and minerals are essential to our overall health. Not having the right amount of nutrients can cause deficiencies which can lead to unnecessary health concerns. The body will give you a sign to get your attention focused on replenishing nutritional deficiency. We are going to expose some of these hidden nutritional deficiencies and share which foods can help you attain nutritional balance.

Vitamin D deficiency can increase your risk for depression, autoimmunity, cancer, heart disease, the common cold, and the flu. Signs that you have a lack of Vitamins D are aching bones, weak muscles, fatigue, frequent illnesses and a sweaty head. You can get vitamin D rich foods through tuna, salmon, mackerel, mushrooms, and dairy (we prefer grass fed dairy).

Vitamin C deficiency signs are bleeding gums, brittle hair, bruising easily, dry red spots on the skin, and in severe case scurvy. Vitamin C is very beneficial as it boosts the immune system, supports blood vessels which support optimal circulation and heart health, supports bones to help prevent bone loss and osteoporosis, and supports the adrenal glands. Vitamin C rich foods include citrus fruit, red peppers, kale, Brussel sprouts, and broccoli.

Vitamin B12 can display signs of deficiency through usually pale skin and fatigue, and a smooth tongue. Be sure to get plenty of liver, red meat (grass fed), milk (grass fed) and seafood like mackerel, sardines and salmon for B12 needs.

Iron deficiency can show up in a CBC (complete blood count) but we also like when people get a full iron panel with ferritin. A lack of iron can show up in people with pale lips, feeling chilled alot, fatigue, brain fog and a weakened immune system. Iron rich foods are liver, squash and pumpkin seeds, seafood, dried beans, and spinach.

Vitamin B7 also known as biotin may show signs of deficiency in dry and brittle hair, weak and fingernails, bone loss, and dandruff. Foods to consume are meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, mushrooms, egg yolks, and cauliflower.

These are just five out of many nutrients, and truth be told we need to be balanced in all of our nutrient levels. Our body does give us signs, but signs are often missed.
