Hormones are essential for our overall health and well-being. We need to have the proper hormone balance to have the ability to perform every day and live well. That is why we recommend hormone testing. There are two types of tests for your hormones, blood/serum test and saliva testing. Both are great options depending on which hormones need testing. For the thyroid, blood testing is the only available method at the moment. However, for the sex hormones, saliva testing is the most accurate form of screening. So here are some reasons to get your hormones tested.
1.) Fatigue is an indicator of a hormone imbalance. If you are tired regardless of how much sleep or rest you get, you should get tested. The fatigue is a symptom of thyroid or adrenal levels being off, which could lead to hypothyroidism or adrenal fatigue!
2.) Hair loss.Your hormones most likely could have something to do with your hair loss which could be directly from thyroid imbalance. However, too much testosterone can also cause unwanted facial hairs and loss of hair from the scalp.
3.) Trouble sleeping. Not being able to fall asleep or stay asleep could be an indicator of cortisol levels needing adjusting or for women low progesterone.
4.) Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and depression? Testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, thyroid and cortisol imbalances are common in people who are struggling with mood swings and even depression.
5.) Low libido/ low sex drive is another sign that your hormones could be off. Whether it is menopause or premenopause, it is still hormone related and can be balanced.
6.) Skin dryness, brittle nails, and dry hair can also be a result of a thyroid issue. If you are not sure why there has been a change in your skin and or scalp or nails, aging may not be the issue, but hormones.
7.) Weight gain or belly fat. Weight gain is a common symptom of hypothyroidism and belly fat is a symptom related to cortisol levels.
Hormones really do determine how you feel and can affect how you look and feel about yourself which can be a vicious cycle for many.
