Hair analysis tests are great for looking at mineral and metal levels in the body. Hair is the second most metabolically active tissue in the body and gives a person’s health history over a period of time, even years. Hair is the 2nd largest tissue in the body and it shows what is being stored in the tissues in your body. If toxic levels of metals are being stored in your tissues for example it can be negatively effecting your health. A hair analysis test will also tell you which minerals are being stored in the tissues, like Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium and Potassium. Minerals in the body are involved in just about every process that it undergoes, and these minerals need to be balanced with each other for optimum efficiency in these processes. One example of a mineral imbalance that effects overall health is when Sodium and Potassium are high and Calcium and Magnesium are low we normally find an underlying overactive thyroid or adrenal problem. The client may be experiencing anxiety, high blood pressure, OCD, hyperactivity, trouble sleeping, and when we recreate mineral balance and support the underlying cause, things seem to improve.
On the other hand if Calcium and Magnesium are high and Sodium and Potassium are low we hear of symptoms of fatigue and trouble getting through the day. This imbalance can be caused by an under-active adrenal or thyroid problem that is contributing to the mineral imbalance.
Calcium is mainly used by the body for bone strength, but also helps with heart function. Phosphate, on the other hand, mostly influences cell membranes but also helps with energy. Having too much phosphate can lower your levels of calcium in the body. This can be said of many other minerals in the body – while they all have their separate and symbiotic functions, it is important to be aware of these relationships and know which minerals you need or don’t need. Metals are also an important factor in hair analysis tests. Heavy amounts of metals can lead to brain fog anxiety, nervous system challenges, pain and other symptoms. If metals like Aluminum are high in the tissues it can start to pull minerals like Calcium to toxic levels and create adverse symptoms.
Having imbalanced minerals or high metal levels can leave you feeling generally drained, tired, foggy and unwell. If you are interested in learning more about what is in the tissues in YOUR body, consider one of our hair analysis tests.
