What exactly is an elimination diet? It is a process of eliminating foods that you regularly consume that may be contributing to adverse symptoms. An elimination diet can be used for many reasons such as diet restrictions on a particular plan, trying to figure out allergies or intolerance, or which foods are causing weight gain, or unpleasant symptoms. A favorite food that is most often eliminated is gluten. Most people who have decided to take gluten out of their diets are trying to figure out if they have a gluten allergy or sensitivity. The elimination process can take anywhere from thirty days to somewhere around six weeks or.. For example, if someone wanted to avoid gluten, the recommended time is at least six weeks because that is how long the traces of gluten stay in the body.
Who should consider an elimination diet? Anyone who is experiencing any of these symptoms:
Skin Challenges: acne, canker sores, eczema, psoriasis, itching, hives, dermatitis
Gut Issues: vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, colic, abdominal pain, loss or appetite, increased appetite, malabsorption, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux
Pain: joint pain, low back pain, bursitis, arthritis, inflammation.
Autoimmune: rheumatoid arthritis, systemic Lupus, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia

Genitourinary: bed-wetting, chronic bladder infections, interstitial cystitis
