Food intolerances are an immune response towards a food that enters your body. There are many different types of reactions to food, from full blown allergy to a simple sensitivity. Regardless, it is important to understand that no two humans are the same and we all have different food and health needs. In the case of food intolerance, a food is viewed as an invader and the body releases antihistamines towards the food in order to remove said invader. It’s these antihistamines and the general immune response that cause most of the symptoms with food intolerances.
There are many skin conditions associated with food intolerance including psoriasis, eczema, acne, hives, and rosacea. All of these are uncomfortable and can be emotional and / or physically draining for the person challenged with them. Regardless of which specific skin condition you struggle with, the one thing these all have in common is inflammation. When your body has a food-triggered immune response, it causes inflammation wherever the food is. In extreme food allergies, this is what causes anaphylaxis, chest tightness, hives, and other symptoms. In the case of food intolerances, this inflammation can lead to any of the above listed skin conditions.
