Transformative Steps to Heal Your Gut

heal your gut

Sometimes, the most profound transformations come from the simplest shifts in our lives. To improve gut health, I found that the foods that work best for healing your gut are different for each person. This revelation not only transformed my gut health but also improved my overall well-being.

In this blog, I want to share my story and the insights I’ve gained along the way. Come with me to learn about personalized nutrition and how it can greatly improve your gut health and overall well-being.

Let’s start with the symptoms and signs that your gut needs healing in the first place.

What are the Signs of an Unhealthy Gut

I am a nutritionist who specializes in overall health. I have had irritable bowel syndrome since birth. Therefore, I have a good understanding of the symptoms of an unhealthy digestive system.

A healthy gut is essential for overall well-being. When your gut is out of balance, it can manifest in various ways. Here are some key signs to watch for:

  1. Digestive Issues: Frequent bloating, gas, diarrhea, or constipation can indicate an imbalance in your gut bacteria.
  2. Weakened Immune System: An unhealthy gut can compromise your immune function, leading to more frequent illnesses and infections.
  3. Mood Swings: The gut-brain connection is real. An imbalanced gut can contribute to mood swings, anxiety, or even depression.
  4. Skin problems: Acne, eczema, or psoriasis can have a connection to an unhealthy gut.
  5. Imbalance of Beneficial Bacteria: A lack of beneficial bacteria can disrupt digestion and nutrient absorption.
  6. Food Intolerances: Developing new food intolerances may signal a gut issue.
  7. Chronic Fatigue: An unhealthy gut can affect energy levels, leading to chronic fatigue.
  8. Types of Bacteria: Imbalances in specific types of bacteria can manifest differently. Pay attention to any unusual symptoms.

The symptoms I had as a young child were loose stools after eating, chronic constipation, and gas and bloating. There were many trips to the doctor and several uncomfortable tests ordered. No one could find anything to figure out why I had these signs and symptoms.

I am sure you can imagine the fear I had when leaving the home to go anywhere. I didn’t want to eat when I went out with my friends or family. I was afraid of getting cramps and needing to find a restroom quickly.

Over time, as I learned about health and nutrition, and how to heal my gut, my symptoms got better. The answers were so simple I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. Let me explain in this next section.

What Promotes Gut Healing?

The phrase “heal your gut” holds profound significance, promising a transformative journey towards peace, relief, vitality and wellness.

This article focuses on the impact of your gut on your health. It also explores the signs of an unhealthy gut and provides guidance on how to begin the healing process.

To continue my story, my first day working in the field of holistic nutrition I had a bad stomach ache. My boss looked at me and asked me what I ate before coming to work. I didn’t know how food affected my stomach, but she said that stomach aches can happen because of reactions to food.

The first thing I did to promote gut healing was look at my diet. I didn’t want to change my diet, but my symptoms were really affecting my life.

Step 1: I did a comprehensive food intolerance test looking at TWO immune pathways that matter. IgG (inflammation all over) and IgA (gut lining and gut inflammation).

The foods that tested positive really surprised me. I had to stop eating foods that caused strong reactions to heal my gut. Additionally, I had to cut back on foods that caused mild reactions. I needed to tweak some of my proteins, fruits, and vegetables.

Step 2: Now I had to think about the worst food for the gut and that is gluten. Just the thought of having to figure out how to eat gluten free was already stressing me.

To know for sure if I needed a gluten free diet, I did a very detailed test. It looked at all the many gluten components, not just 2 or 3 like the traditional labs do. Plus it looked at leaky gut, protein digestion, fat maldigestion, autoimmunity from gluten, and so much more.

The results shocked me. I actually had Celiac and autoimmune against my gut. No wonder every time I ate gluten, which was all day long, my stomach would be upset.

Step 3: The last step for promoting health health and healing my gut was to look at my stool. I had to know my levels of good bacteria, bad bacteria and how was my digestive health. I needed to know if my gut microbiota was healthy or not.

My boss discussed leaky gut syndrome. I wanted to know if I had it and how bad it was. Proteins from food enter the bloodstream through the gut lining and affect mood, hair, weight, and stomach health.

In my clinic, I meet many people who have digestive tract problems and want to feel better. I test their stool to determine what’s in their gut and how to make them feel better. Without doing a stool test I am guessing and not fixing the problem.

When healing your gut, you need to personalize the protocol towards you and your gut.

How Long Does it Take to Heal Your Gut?

For me healing my gut was quick once I knew what to eat and what supplements I needed. For some clients, it may take 7 days to 6 weeks to heal their gut. It all depends on the severity of the findings.

For instance, immediately I removed all gluten grains from my diet and right away my bowels normalized. I have not had a stomach ache in the last 30 years. Dairy was another problem for me and I did remove dairy from my diet. My gut feels totally fine until I eat dairy and then I may feel gas and bloating again.

Being someone who is either fully committed or not at all, I immediately adjusted my diet after seeing my test results. I had to reduce apples, carrots, parsnips, red meat and nuts from my diet.

My test showed bad bacteria. I discovered the appropriate probiotics and herbals to eliminate them, and my gut healed even more, in a few short weeks. With numerous probiotics available, it’s important to choose wisely. After 30 years in this field, I must emphasize that randomly selecting one is not the solution.

I help clients with leaky gut by giving them protocols to heal their gut lining effectively.

If you are wanting me to help you too, no problem………….keep reading.
