Green is in when it comes to drinks! Whether you enjoy being in a hip juice bar or getting your creative juices flowing at home, green drinks are all the rage and have been for the past couple of years. Drinking your greens can be quite healthy if you have the right vitamins in your glass.
Experts recommend 5-9 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Let’s be real, though, most of us probably only eat one serving of fruit and vegetables per day. That is why drinking a fresh green juice, or a green smoothie is an excellent option because you can easily get your nutrients and servings all in one delicious drink! That is especially good news to swallow for people who do not like eating their vegetables! Now they can enjoy superfoods such as kale that is high in vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, B6, and iron. Don’t be afraid to experiment, have fun! You can always look up delicious recipes online. To make green drinks smooth and creamy add 1/3 banana or 2 tbs avocado.
So, here is how to get started. You want to make sure you use greens that are in “season,” which are usually priced better too- win-win! If you are using a strong produce such as celery or ginger, you may only want to use a little bit at a time so that it is not overpowering in taste. You can always add a fruit or cucumber for a little sweetness. However, be careful not to overload your healthy green drink with sugar by adding too much fruit.
