It is fall and the time change has just begun but is that what’s keeping you from having a good’s night sleep? Or is it something else that is stopping you from catching up on all your Z’s? Sleep is so essential for your overall well-being. If you are not receiving the amount of sleep that your body needs, it may be an indicator that you are deficient in vitamins and minerals.
The first supplement most people think of when it comes to supporting sleep is melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone and not a vitamin or mineral. Your body produces it naturally through the pineal gland which is a small gland located in the brain. You can help your body produce this hormone by sleeping in an entirely dark room with no visible lights. Going to sleep when the sun goes down and getting 6-8 hours of sleep will help too. Not having the proper amount of “good” sleep can cause issues with your daily performances and even your health. So here are some vitamins and minerals that you want to make sure that you get enough of to receive good sleep which is essential for good health.
Vitamin D deficiency can lead to a sleep disorder. However, this is a supplement that should not be taken at night because it could disrupt your bodies ability to produce melatonin. Taking your Vitamin D in the morning is optimal.
Magnesium supports sleep by relaxing the body. If you are having difficulty falling asleep or even staying asleep magnesium should be able to give you some relief. Sadly, most Americans are deficient in this mineral which leads to many different health challenges.
Vitamin B3 (Niacin) deficiency can also causes insomnia.
These are some examples of vitamin and mineral deficiency that can cause insufficient sleep; which in turn can lead to moodiness, inability to perform daily tasks, and health struggles.
