Items Tested For: H. Pylori Antigen: This microorganism, which can be found on the stomach mucosa of infected people, causes very frequent and mostly silent infections that can produce gastritis, gastric ulcers and other serious pathologies. This FDA-cleared, non-invasive test directly measures the antigen in stool (not antibodies) and is used for identifying Helicobacter pylori infections. It is also used for monitoring therapeutic efficacy during and after treatment.
Beneficial Bacteria (Good Bacteria): these make up a large portion of total microflora in a healthy and balanced GI tract. They may have health protecting effects in the GI tract including manufacturing vitamins, fermenting fibers, digesting proteins and carbohydrates, and propagating anti tumor and anti inflammatory factors.
Commensal (Imbalanced) flora: This is neither good nor bad bacteria. But imbalances can occur when there are low good bacteria overall. Some types of commensal bacteria can be considered dysbiotic if they are at very high levels.
Dysbiotic (Bad Bacteria): These are known pathogenic bacteria (harmful) and can cause disease in the GI tract. They can be present due to consumption of contaminated drinking water or food, exposure to chemicals toxic to good bacteria, antibiotics, other medications, poor fiber and high stress.
Yeast Culture & Microscopic: Yeast is normally found in the skin, mouth, intestine and mucocutaneuos junctions. Overgrowth can infect every organ system, leading to a wide range of symptoms. One strain is called Candida which effects the GI tract, energy and the skin. Mold toxicity is also a challenge for many people.
Parasites & Worms: Intestinal parasites are abnormal inhabitants of the GI tract that have the potential to cause harm to their host. Acute manifestations may involve diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea but not always. If not destroyed, these parasites can cause damage to the intestinal lining, unsuspected illness & fatigue, IBS, irregular bowel movements, malabsorption, gastritis or indigestion, skin disorders, joint pain, allergic reactions & decreased immune function. In some cases they can circulate and travel to various organs causing severe organ illnesses.
Some parasites tested:
Parasites & Worms: Blastocystis, Chinese Liver Fluke, Cryptosporidium, Dientamoeba, Endolimax Nana or Hartmanni, Entamoeba Histolytica (Ameba), Pinworm, Giardia, Hookworm, Schistosoma Mansoni, Stronglyoides, Tapeworm, Trichinella
Elastase – pancreatic enzyme indicator
Fat Stain: Fat absorption indicator
Muscle Fibers: indicator of incomplete digestion (feeling full)
Vegetable Fibers: inadequate chewing or eating too fast
Carbohydrates: carbohydrate malabsorption
Inflammation Indicators – the more inflammation most likely indicates food intolerances
Lysozyme, Lactoferrin, WBC’s, Mucus
Leaky Gut / Secretory IgA (SigA): High levels indicate overactive immune response, low levels indicate leaky gut.
Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA): identifies if there is adequate fiber intake and good fats like coconut and olive oil
Intestinal Health Markers:
Red Blood Cells, pH, Occult Blood
Color (certain conditions can change the stool color), Consistency – should be 75% water and should be formed and soft.

GI Pathogen Panel (includes C Diff and Viruses) : This part of the test helps if there is…….
- Chronic or acute diarrhea
- Bloody stool
- Travelers diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Fever & vomiting
- Immuno-compromised patients
- Geriatric patients
- Chronic disease patients (heart disease, aortic grafts, diabetes, chronic renal disease)
- Observed cluster or suspected outbreak of diarrheal illness
The GI Pathogen Profile, uses multiplex PCR system, tests for 14 Viruses, parasites, and bacteria, and offers new opportunities for the rapid, accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment of diarrheal illnesses which can improve patient outcomes and clinical success.
While bacteria and parasites are the primary cause of food & water-borne diarrheal illness (48 million infections/year), the vast majority of acute diarrheal illness is caused not by bacteria or parasites, but by viral infections. In fact, Norovirus is the primary gastrointestinal infection occurring in the United States. Even though testing for pathogenic bacteria and parasite is commonly available, there has been limited availability of viral testing until recently.
Acute gastroenteritis may contribute to patient morbidity and even mortality, if the illness progresses to severe dehydration. Also, the identification of reportable diseases is imperative to prevent large outbreaks, especially for highly contagious or food-borne illnesses, and many gastrointestinal illnesses have very similar clinical presentations.
