Why should we get comprehensive blood tests? Why are these labs different from traditional clinics?
The answer is simple, it is the word “comprehensive”. For years I battled a sluggish thyroid but my TSH was always normal so I was always told my thyroid was fine. BUT years later when I started taking blood chemistry classes and learned that TSH is NOT all there is regarding the thyroid, I tested my other, significant thyroid levels like T3, T4 and thyroid antibodies and surprise, surprise, I DID have a thyroid problem. It did not show up in regular blood work, but it did show up in comprehensive blood work.
Then I did more. I had a reason to look at comprehensive blood tests now. So, I also ran a comprehensive vitamin panel on my self, and many of the thyroid nutrients, like selenium and zinc, were too low, no surprise there. WOW! This really works I thought!
Plus I always thought food was an issue for me regarding some annoying symptoms, including weight gain. Regular allergy testing was negative, but when I did comprehensive food intolerance blood tests the foods causing my symptoms showed up! I am totally convinced that traditional blood tests are not enough for people to truly understand their health and body. More comprehensive testing is needed to obtain the answers we all strive for.
