skin problemsBy Alane Stieglitz, ND, CNC

If you want to clear up your acne problem or skin problems, anywhere on the body, you are in the right place. I can help. I used to look in the mirror one day and smile, and then the next, wonder what I did or what my body was doing to cause a new blemish or a cyst right where I did not need one. Of course, I used some topical skincare products to clear things up as fast as possible, but I always wished I could end my skin problems and feel more confident.

When I started working in the field of natural wellness, my skin problems started to make sense. I worked hard to get to the root cause of the sudden eruptions and get them under control. I found three essential parts to skin problem healing, and I will share them with you.

First, I had to take a good look at my diet. I ate pretty bad as a child and teenager, but into my 20s and 30s, I learned the importance of eating healthy. I ate whole wheat bread, organic dairy, organic eggs, organic peanut butter, organic vegetables, and fruit. I thought I was doing good, but my skin did not get better.

One of the things that made a considerable improvement in my skin problems was learning about my immune system along with food intolerances. I often talk about learning I am intolerant to beef, corn, parsnips, dairy, and gluten. So when I took out the foods that tested positive in the IgG and IgA immune pathways, my skin problems started to heal.

Next, to clear up my acne problem, I had to look at my gut. I had IBS for most of my life, and when I changed my diet, the symptoms of IBS did improve but not as much as I hoped. A comprehensive stool test showed me I had a leaky gut, an overgrowth of bad bacteria, low short-chain fatty acids, and a high gliadin reaction, a double dose of a gluten issue.

The next thing that helped improve my skin problems was looking at the sex hormones in the saliva and my thyroid levels in the blood. I had always had this odd brown mark on my neck and could not figure it out. It was another type of skin problem that I wanted to go.

Comprehensive thyroid testing told me that my thyroid was slow, and I had Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune against the thyroid gland. Once my thyroid was properly supported, and I cleaned up my diet even more to reduced the thyroid ab my skin problems cleared up even more. Ok, I knew I was on the right track

Lastly, I had to take a look at my hormones. But in the saliva, not the blood. Saliva hormone testing tells you what is happening in the tissues, and the skin is a tissue. Goodness, my hormones were all backward. My female hormones were low, and my androgens were high; no wonder I had skin problems! Plus a few PMS issues we won’t discuss today. I got my hormones working the right way and again saw even more skin clearing. I was so happy and felt more confident and could breathe easier.

I call this getting myself into balance to  enjoy a life with little to no skin problems. I am sure any woman or man can understand.
