Tax season stress is no joke, and for many people, the stress of it all has a profound effect on their health. The stress is not only on the individual who needs to get their taxes done, but it also includes the CPA’s (certified public accountant)  who are under the stress of deadlines and burdensome hours to finish filing the taxes. Thus is the stressful cycle of the tax season.

Couples are also under stress because usually one person is the money saver and the other is the money spender. Therefore, when tax season comes around it can put a strain on the couple’s relationship and family life by one person blaming the other if there are financial struggles. Try to work together and keep the communication with finances open and transparent with each other. After all, you are both on the same team!

Poor nutrition, lack of sleep, and too much stress can lead to a heavy toll on your relationships, and your overall health ranging from mental clarity to belly fat which causes weight gain, and of course mood swings. Add that all up and you have a perfect tax season stress recipe that can affect your adrenal glands and cortisol levels! Yes, couples can be overly stressed during tax season but so can the CPA.

Is there anything that can be done to help you get through the tax season with a lower amount of stress?  Yes, with a little bit of planning, you can start by the following:

  • Try to limit your coffee and sugar intake.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch, do not skip these two meals.
  • Pack healthy snacks like fruit, nuts, yogurt, or protein snacks to reduce the junk food temptation.
  • Try to relax, if you are the CPA listen to soothing music or use an essential oil diffuser for a less stressful atmosphere.
  • Instead of eliminating exercising during this period, try to do light exercises which can be at your desk or home or walking stairs for a few minutes.
  • Include stretching if you are at your desk all day.
  • Get as much quality sleep as possible, at least 8 hours a night.

Even after trying all the above, you still may be feeling the pressure of constant stress and not be able to sleep, or you may be gaining weight around the belly. These are common symptoms usually associated with cortisol levels being off and the adrenal glands being overworked. When this happens, you will continuously feel stressed and fatigued and no amount of sleep will be able to fix it. However, there is hope when it comes to your adrenals and hormones such as cortisol. Not only is there hope but it is super easy to check your adrenals and cortisol levels with our Adrenals and Cortisol Test just by collecting your saliva.
