The gut is arguably the most important area of the body to be mindful of when it comes to your health. Your gut is responsible for absorbing food and distributing it throughout the body. Food is absorbed and nutrients are transported via the blood to every other area in the body. Therefore, if you are suffering from gut issues, symptoms can be presenting themselves anywhere in the body, not just with the expected gut symptoms. You may not expect a gut issue to effect the rest of your body, but it can, even your brain! If you have eczema or psoriasis have you ever thought about what is happening in your gut that is effecting your skin? If you have hair loss have you ever wondered if you are absorbing your nutrients well or if leaky gut may be an issue? Gut health can affect your overall health and wellness.
One of the items our stool test lab looks for is the level of gut bacteria. The human body naturally holds 10x as many bacteria as it does cells, and 10x more viruses than it has bacteria! Most of the time these work symbiotically with your body to help break down and digest foods that your body normally would not be able to, but sometimes the ratio of “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria can cause symptoms in the GI tract or other areas of the body. Some of these symptoms may be gas, bloating, loose stools, acne, eczema, itchy scalp and more.
Our lab also checks for all parasites and worms that may be in your gut causing gastrointestinal symptoms or other health challenging symptoms. Parasites and worms can be acquired everywhere from travel to poorly prepared food, swimming in ponds or lakes, drinking water and even from pets. Yeast like Candida Albicans is another potential issue that our lab looks for. Yeast naturally occurs in the gut and helps to process food, but if these levels are thrown off it can affect the body in various ways. An overgrowth of yeast may cause gut symptoms, acne, itching, hair flakes, weight gain, anxiety and even OCD symptoms. Our lab also looks at gut inflammation markers, leaky gut markers, digestive enzyme levels and overall intestinal health markers such as stool consistency or blood in the stool.
Symptoms involved in gut conditions like irritable bowel, leaky gut, Ulcerative Colitis, etc. vary widely from person to person. Yet, the one thing they hold in common is constant discomfort and difficulty in day to day tasks.
If you believe you might be struggling from a gut problem, we recommend a stool test kit to find out just what is going on in your gut. Remember, your gut health can affect your overall health and wellness. Our kit is a three day collection – and once we have your results we send them to you with an easy to understand analysis and protocol to help you optimize your gut health.
