IgG TestBy Alane Palmer, ND, CNC

Often when people think of “food allergy” they think of the immediate and life-threatening reactions that we see so often on TV and in the rest of the media. In reality, most of the time when our body has a reaction to food it is a delayed response that is not life-threatening but can be detrimental to your well-being as a whole and can leave you with reactions that start small but worsen over time. Any food reaction, whether it be an allergy, intolerance, or sensitivity, can be defined by your body having an immune system response to a specific food when it is ingested.

Food related immune responses present in the form of immunoglobulins. IgE antibodies represent the extreme responses that occur within a few minutes, while IgG antibodies represent delayed responses in the form of food intolerance and food sensitivities. These reactions can take hours or even days to present themselves, making it extremely difficult to find problem foods solely through things like food diaries and bandwagon dieting. IgG immune responses can be linked to a number of things, including infections, preservatives, weak health, auto immunity, poor gut health, environment, stress, and overeating. These responses differ from person to person, and some people can handle these influences better than others. IgG response symptoms can including IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), brain fog, eczema, insomnia, an annoying cough or tickle in the throat, headaches, joint pain, leg pain, sinus congestion, acne, weight gain and more.

If you struggle with any of the above, or if you notice you generally do not feel well after eating certain foods, we recommend our IgG food test so you can know for sure which foods are safe for you to eat and which are not. Aside from helping with any symptoms you might struggle with, eliminating problem foods may even leave you feeling healthier, happier, and just generally better than before elimination!
