What Is CardioMetabolic Testing?By Alane Archer, ND, CNC and Michelle Tuffs

CardioMetabolic Testing DOES NOT involve a treadmill! Such a relief! Most people don’t think of their heart as a muscle that needs to be maintained and kept in shape, exactly the same way we get those nicely toned arms and abs. Maybe because we can’t see the results of a cardio workout it doesn’t feel quite as important? Standard cholesterol testing can miss the fact that you may be at risk and according to NCEP guidelines, 50% of people who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol levels!

CardioMetabolic Testing includes a Risk Assessment, which is an indication of Low, Moderate or High Risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Because there are some very major players involved in keeping your heart healthy Nutritionally Yours offers CardioMetabolic Testing online, that can show you exactly what needs to be addressed to keep your heart in tip-top shape!

First and foremost is Homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine can be associated with blood clots, heart attacks, and atherosclerosi . If you are aware that you carry a mutation of the MTHFR gene this may be related to high levels of homocysteine. Nutrient deficiencies will most likely show up as folate (not folic acid) and B12. High homocysteine may be a genetic issue, yes this issue can be passed down throughout the generations, or a diet low in b12 and folate OR simple your body is just not converting folic acid to the usable form called folate.

The next uh -oh for cardio–metabolic testing is called Insulin. Insulin levels show how well your body can metabolize carbs. High insulin levels during fasting may indicate insulin resistance and possible pre-diabetes. Did you know that you can have a totally normal A1C and feel like you have Diabetes but the actual culprit IS insulin? High insulin can lead to increased weight gain, appetite, blood sugar ups / downs, mood swings and more.

We have to mention two cardio markers that we take very seriously in this cardio metabolic test. These are called C-Reactive Protein and Fibrinogen. Both can be elevated due to having thick blood, high inflammation and they can put you at risk for blood clot, heart attack or a stroke. Extremely high levels or C-r-protein have been used in determining if there may be a tumor. High levels can be addressed with proper anti-inflammatory diet, concentrated fish oil, niacin etc.

And, of course, our cardio metabolic test includes a good cholesterol test.

If you have a family history of heart disease or diabetes, are already on medication for cholesterol levels, are overweight or have high triglycerides our CardioMetabolic Testing may give you peace of mind knowing exactly what your levels are and how to protect your Cardiovascular Health!
