Food allergies and food intolerances can have a dramatic effect on a person’s life. For most people, when you hear the word “food allergy” you immediately picture the staple anaphylactic or eczema reactions. In reality, these are defined as food reactions that occur within minutes of eating a food and can vary from moderate to severe reactions. It is estimated that 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies. Food intolerance’s, however, have smaller yet longer lasting effects. These reactions are generally delayed and have greater effects over time. They are also extremely difficult to notice since the reactions occur anywhere from hours to days after a food is eaten.
Food intolerance’s can present in many ways including the respiratory system (asthma, frequent infections, shortness of breath), the skin (acne, eczema, itching), the gut (irritable bowel, changes in appetite, acid re-flux), the musculoskeletal system (pain, inflammation), and the brain (general brain fog, ADHD symptoms, depression, anxiety, insomnia, mood changes, dizziness). They can also lead to weight problems and stress.
At Nutritionally Yours we have three main food tests that we focus on. An IgE food allergy test kit looks for the allergy reactions that happen within minutes of eating a food. An IgG food allergy test looks for delayed food allergy reactions. IgG antibodies comprise of about 73% of the antibodies in our system. Finally, a white blood cell reaction or immune response food allergy test (ALCAT) looks specifically at foods that the immune system responds poorly to.
Along with your test results we provide you with an easy to read, full color rotation diet so you know exactly which foods to avoid and which foods to enjoy. The results will also show you the severity of the food reactions. Eating only the foods your body is tolerant of with may lead to symptom reduction or elimination. You can be healthier and happier in your day to day life.
